The underside is terra cotta often with some traces of engobe. Brown and white pieces have a white or brown and white colored terra cotta underside. Sometimes the underside shows some small cracks along the edge of the middel circle. Those are consequences of the making process and do not effect the sturdiness of the plate. Examples are shown on photo 2.
My pieces are handmade and therefore have imperfections.
Please note that some people find it uncomfortable to use cutlery in combination with unglazed ceramics.

Made with clay slabs and the help of a mold. After making the piece I paint it with underglaze. After the first firing the glaze is applied and the plate is fired again. A third firing is necessary if gold is applied.After the last firing the pieces are sealed.
Material:
Made of red earthenware clay. This clay is my favorite because of the vivid tones it creates. The underglaze is developed by testing and adjusting several recipes to make one that is durable used in combination with this clay.
The coating on the unglazed parts makes the plates water and oil resistant and it can easily be cleaned.
I try to be as environmental-friendly in my production process as possible. That's why I use clay that can be fired at a a relatively low temperature. In addition the coating often makes it possible to load the kiln with more works at once. I also use environmental friendly packing materials when I think it’s safe to do so.
This item will last the longest if you clean it immediately after use and do not use aggressive cleaning agents. You can clean it with water and dish soap. Please handwash.

All my works are completely handmade The complete making process is in my hands and a lot of the used materials and techniques are my own recipes and techniques.
Imperfections enhance the unique character of the object.
